Mmmm ... how did you know that octopus is my very favourite, Mia? Those family meals you described sound incredible. Thanks so much for bringing this to the party!

Ivonne, just lucky I guess. And those memories of giant meals with all of my relatives are magic for me; I would love to relive them.
So glad to be a "guest" at the party and I must say, you and Lis are wonderful hostesses.

Awww Mia, thank you so much for joining in on the Festa! Yay!
I must say this dish looks amazingly good.. I love fresh seafood and although I've never had octopus (does squid count? hee!) or fresh sardines, I'd be happy to try them!!
Another beautifully presented dish - thank you, sweetie!

Mia what a beautiful, beautiful post on your memories and of course....octopus and sardines!!! We drove around Castellamare del Golfo to check it out but as it so happened, it was around noon and the town was quiet for lunchtime. Get this, my husband tried looking for a tobacconist shop to purchase a parking slip but found none open, so the bar next door told him to simply write on a slip of paper "Tabaccaio e' chiuso" and leave it on the dash -- too hilarious -- only in Sicily!

Octopus is definitely not my everyday snack! I enjoyed your childhood memories cooking fish. Mine are similar, except we cooked catfish.

oh my god, i could ravish that octopus. i love octopus but have been afraid to try it if you can believe that!
i've got two questions - can i use frozen octopus? i could traipse into town to get it or more easily dash to my local asian grocery which has flash frozen octopus.
my second question, where the heck did you find fresh octopus in munich? i don't bthink i ever saw even frozen octopus, but i do remember getting it out one night - maybe with you?
hope all's well.

I never used to like octpus but lately I've been getting into it, trying it in different kinds of dishes at restaurants. Yours looks beautiful but I don't think I could master making it myself just yet!

@Lisa: squid does not count. :) you should try octopus at least once. My favorite way is the cold octopus and celery salad that's a tradition at Christmas Eve. Let me know and I'll send you the recipe!
@Rowena! I love Castellamare, both my parents grew up there. Hope you made it to Scopello. Your story - sounds like Sicily all right. :)
@ Janet - thanks! i love catfish. that's something i never find around here. but I'm going to get some when I go back to the states!
@jane - i've honestly never had frozen octopus; maybe the texture would be a bit different? i have a great turkish fish market around the corner from where i live. they have the best fresh fish!
@Saffron - you could, it's healthy!
@Honeybee - octopus is relatively inexpensive so it's a good thing to experiment with. you should try it!
Thanks all for the lovely comments! I really enjoyed reading them. xoxox
