Mea Culpa

I'm sorry. Mea culpa. I have neglected this blog in a shameful manner. Granted, I have a fistful of excellent excuses but I haven't so much as dropped a hello, how are you, or a hi. I'm a baaaad blogger.

I have further confessions.

I haven't even really been cooking. My sister, brother, and I cooked for about 20 people when I was back in the U.S a few weeks ago. I went home because my aunt was ill ... and then she died ... and after the painful days of wakes and funeral were over, we took a day to celebrate my brother's wife Sandi's 40th birthday. My sister and I prepped one whole night and the next day, but do you think we took pictures of anything? Negative. I think that by the time the food was out, I was too tired to take photos.

But, I have just been to Sicily for my cousin's birthday and the food was incredible. Check this guy out:

He chopped the octopus to order, with just a squeeze of lemon and good olive oil. There were a great many appetizers as usual, all of them fresh, interesting, delicious...

...but the best part, of course, was the array of desserts.

This little guy was determined to be the first in line for this one:

As for me, I'm partial to the classics:

Finally, here's the birthday girl with her creatively designed cake:
